Scrubs star Zach Braff is in talks to direct and star in Cameron Diaz romantic comedy Swingles.

The project centres on a man and a woman whose respective best friends fall in love, forcing them to reluctantly team up and hit the dating scene together. Braff will also rework the script by Duncan Birmingham and Jeff Roda.

The Paramount movie will be Braff's first feature appearance since 2006's Fast Track. His last directorial effort was the 2004 indie comedy Garden State.

Braff recently closed a deal with NBC to return to medical sitcom Scrubs for a six-episode run in the ninth season.
