The story centres on a couple who hire a woman to carry their child, only to discover midway through the pregnancy that she is insane.
Paul Verhoeven will direct the movie, his first in Hollywod since 2000's Hollow Man, from a script by Rod and Bruce Taylor (The Brave One).
The project will mark Berry's return to the silver screen after having a baby. She last appeared opposite Bruce Willis in 2007's Perfect Stranger.
