Disney has announced plans to bring Winnie The Pooh back to the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter.

No details have been revealed for the untitled Pooh movie, only that it will open in cinemas in spring 2011 and will be a 2-D, hand-drawn animated adventure.

A.A. Milne's creation, a honey-loving bear who lives in Hundred Acre Wood with Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore, first appeared in a collection of stories in 1926. The character has since featured on TV, film, radio and licenced merchandise.

Disney consumer products chairman Andy Mooney said that Pooh is the second-biggest character franchise behind Mickey Mouse.

The last theatrical outing for Winnie The Pooh, 2005's Heffalump Movie, earned $52 million at the worldwide box office.
