The Star Trek actor would star alongside Denzel Washington in the film, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The Tony Scott-helmed project reportedly centres around an experienced train engineer (Washington) who is about to be laid-off as part of company cutbacks, with a younger conductor (Pine) hired to replace him.
Production on the movie is scheduled to begin this August for a 2010 release date. Mark Bomback wrote the script.
