According to Variety, Bardem will play love interest Felipe in the adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir.
The movie will tell the story of Gilbert (Roberts), who has just suffered a painful breakup and divorce. To deal with her heartbreak, she travels around the world to Rome, India and Bali, where she eventually meets Felipe.
Richard Jenkins is cast as an Indian, who Gilbert befriends on her travels.
Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy will direct from his own script.
