As previously reported, Tom Cruise and Mission: Impossible III helmer J.J. Abrams will co-produce the new Ethan Hunt adventure for Paramount.
"Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing," Abrams said earlier.
A continuation of the spy saga appeared unlikely following the collapse of Cruise's relationship with Paramount. The actor's 14-year partnership with the Hollywood studio was terminated in 2006 by Viacom chief Sumner Redstone, with Cruise moving on to take charge of the revamped United Artists.
However, the pair have since resolved their differences, paving the way for a new Mission: Impossible. The project may take time to arrive, as Abrams is expected to steer the Star Trek sequel and Cruise is lining up a role opposite Cameron Diaz in Wichita.
