Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring will write and direct the psychological thriller, a remake of Oliver Hirschbiegel's German film Das Experiment.
The story centres on a group of ordinary men who take on the roles of guards and prisoners for an experiment to examine how power and control affect the subjects. Brody will take on the role of the prisoners' leader, while Whitaker has been cast as a guard who abuses his power.
The Experiment begins production in Iowa next month.
