Kickinger, 41, is a former bodybuilder and recently appeared in Terminator Salvation. He also played a Conan-era Arnold Schwarzenegger in biopic See Arnold Run in 2005.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is being lined up for the lead role in Lionsgate and Nu Image/Millenium's barbarian franchise.
The film is based around Robert E. Howard's pulp character from the 1930s. John Milius directed the 1982 violent adaptation of Conan The Barbarian, with Schwarzenegger as the eponymous warrior.
V For Vendetta helmer James McTeigue emerged as the frontrunner to direct the movie in May, after Brett Ratner pulled out due to scheduling conflicts.
