The movie, to be directed by music video helmer Floria Sigismondi, will centre on Joan Jett and her time in the short-lived all-girl group The Runaways. Taylor-Compton will play lead guitarist Lita Ford, joining Twilight's Kristen Stewart (as Jett), Dakota Fanning (lead singer Cheri Currie) and Michael Shannon (producer and manager Kim Fowley).
The Runaways formed in 1975, initially as a teen novelty act, then parted ways in 1979. Jett went on to form the Blackhearts and notch up hits with 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll' and 'Bad Reputation'.
Taylor-Compton is best known for her role as Laurie Strode in the Halloween remake. She recently had a role in Beyoncé thriller Obsessed.
