The movie, starring Sam Rockwell as a helium miner working alone on the moon, scooped the Michael Powell award for best new British feature film, reports Screen Daily.
Fish Tank star Katie Jarvis, who drew rave reviews at Cannes for her performance in Andrea Arnold's film, won the PPG award for best performance in a British feature film.
The Standard Life audience award went to Tomm Moore's animation The Secret Of Kells, which narrowly pipped Moon to the gong. Moore's Irish movie, about a young boy helping to complete the Book Of Kells, features the voice talents of Brendan Gleeson and Evan McGuire.
Elsewhere, Aliona Van der Horst won the best documentary prize for Boris Ryzhy, Sin Nombre's Cary Joji Fukunaga scooped the Skillset new directors gong and the Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus award went to Lynn Shelton's comedy Humpday.
The Edinburgh International Film Festival closes tonight with the world premiere of Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne's Adam, a comedy drama about a man suffering from Asperger syndrome.
