Amy Adams is closing in on a role in boxing drama The Fighter, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale have already been cast in the movie, which tells the story of Massachusetts boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward and his half-brother Dick Eklund, who trained him for a dramatic comeback fight against Arturo Gatti.

Adams is in talks for the role of Charlene, a barmaid and former star college athlete who dates Mickey.

Frozen River's Melissa Leo will play the mother of Bale and Wahlberg's character, with Three Kings's David O. Russell directing the movie.
