Bill Nighy has confirmed that he will be appearing in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

Speaking to The Independent, the actor announced that he had just been offered a role in the final instalment of the magical franchise.

"I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he is quoted as saying.

"I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig."

The Boat That Rocked star, who has been linked with the role of Rufus Scrimgeour, went on to admit that he had not read the books by J.K. Rowling but insisted that they were definitely on his agenda.

He added: "It's rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?"

Nighy had previously joked that he was "the only British actor that hasn't been asked to appear in Harry Potter".
