George Clooney is interested in starring as Jack Ryan in the revived spy series, according to The Daily Beast.

The actor, who recently penned a two-year filmmaking deal with Sony, has reportedly told Paramount that he is keen to star as the CIA analyst once the franchise is up and running again.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Hossein Amini was hired last year to pen a script for a new Ryan outing, but it was thought that Paramount requested a story focusing on the early years of Tom Clancy's character.

Ryan has previously appeared in four feature films, with Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck portraying the character.

Sam Raimi had been linked with the director's chair for the new Jack Ryan outing but bowed out due to his Spider-Man commitments.
