Reports surfaced last year claiming that Dorff would reprise his role as Deacon Frost in a prequel trilogy based around his character, who was killed by Wesley Snipes's vampire hunter in Norrington's 1998 film.
Speaking to Comics2Film, Norrington said that his discussions with Dorff had "evolved into a very interesting story".
"The linkage to Blade is still big in the equation," the filmmaker added.
Based on the Marvel Comics character, Blade spawned two sequels, directed by Guillermo del Toro and David Goyer, and a short-lived TV series.
