According to Variety, she will play Spacey's ex-wife in the indie project. Madsen recently produced documentary I Know a Woman Like That and will also star in Hilary Swank's Amelia.
Invention revolves around a "humble inventor-turned-egomaniacal billionaire" (Spacey) who loses everything when one of his creations goes disastrously wrong. He spends eight years in prison and vows to rebuild his fortune and status when he leaves.
Madsen's character will spend what is left of the inventor's fortune and remarry while her lover remains stuck behind bars.
Camilla Belle, Craig Robinson and Heather Graham are also attached to star in the project, while Trent Cooper is signed up to direct.
