According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake is in the final shortlist of three alongside Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper.
The 'SexyBack' singer has appeared in drama Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, but has more often been cast in comedy roles such as The Love Guru and cameos on Saturday Night Live.
Warner Bros, director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti have been looking for an actor to play Hal Jordan in the intergalactic space epic for five months. The holding deal the studio had with the trio expired earlier this week, so a decision is expected very soon.
Other actors apparently considered for the role included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.
Green Lantern will arrive in cinemas on June 17, 2011.
