Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais have said that they are both the "good cops" on the set of their upcoming movie Cemetery Junction.

The co-writers and directors of the film told the BBC that they left the disciplining of actors to the producers.

Merchant said: "It's not a good cop, bad cop scenario. We're both good cops and we make the producers be the bad cop."

Gervais joked: "That's true. I just go, 'That's great', and I say to the producer, 'I never want to see that person again', and then that's it. I never do.

"Someone looked at me today. They went, 'Alright Ricky, love The Office'. I went 'Do you? How dare you look at me'."

Merchant added: "That's a shame, because we really needed Ralph Fiennes for the film."
