Tom Felton: 'I frighten Potter fans'

Rex Features

Tom Felton has admitted that young fans of the Harry Potter movies have a difficult time separating him from his character.

The actor plays Draco Malfoy in the popular film franchise and revealed that devotees of the series are not keen on meeting him in real life, STV reports.

He said: "For love nor money I can't convince a 6-year-old that I'm a nice guy in real life. He just thinks I'm trying to lure him into the Slytherin way!"

The 21-year-old added that no amount of coaxing can convince children that he is nothing like his on-screen alter ego.

"I always try to make special efforts but they're not having it. They hide behind their parents' legs and say, 'No thanks Daddy, I don't want to meet this one'."

Felton recently said that although he is drawn to "solemn villain" roles, he is keen to broaden his horizons.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens in cinemas on July 17.
