Heyerdahl: 'I did New Moon for my niece'
Published Monday, Jul 13 2009, 22:36 BST | By Tim Parks

The Stargate: Atlantis actor said that he was compelled to take on the part of the 3,000-year-old vampire due to Twilight's popularity among teenaged girls, Sci-Fi Wire reports.
He said: "Really, one of the main reasons to play that character and have anything to do with that series is my niece, who is absolutely obsessed with this series of books.
"To see how it has had such an effect on the teenage female community throughout the world is amazing."
New Moon is scheduled to open in US cinemas on November 20 and in the UK on November 27.
