Working Title has reportedly confirmed that a third Bridget Jones movie starring Renee Zellweger is in development.

According to Variety, the untitled project is still at a "very early stage" but will likely be based on a series of newspaper columns written by author Helen Fielding in 2005.

The articles, published in The Independent, focus on Bridget's life as a 40-something in London, including a pregnancy. No writer or director have been set yet.

Bridget Jones's Diary, based on the bestselling book, was released in 2001 and took over $280 million worldwide. It later spawned a sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, which grossed around $260 million.

Zellweger has previously confirmed her interest in reprising the character for another instalment, but admitted that she was anxious about the prospect of piling on the weight for a third time.

Production on Bridget Jones 3 is not expected to begin until next year.
