Dana Adam Shapiro's screenplay centres on a mixed race student who returns to his Mississippi home and begins a relationship with a white girl. The segregated school prom means that the pair are forbidden from attending together, an event which provokes change in the community.
The story of Deep South racial conflict is inspired by real-life life events and was recently the subject of HBO documentary Prom Night In Mississippi.
Aniston is expected to serve as an executive producer on Holler through her Echo Films company. Her Echo partner Kristin Hahn will produce alongside Tracey Durning.
