Zachary Gordon is the 'Wimpy Kid'

Zachary Gordon has been cast as the lead in Fox 2000's adaptation of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Chloe Moretz is apparently in talks to take the lead female role, while The Hangover's Rachel Harris will play Gordon's mother. Thor Freudenthal has signed up to direct.

Wimpy Kid, which was written by Jeff Kinney, tracks the adventures of middle school student Gregg Heffley as he makes his way through the academic year.

The book, which shifts from written prose to cartoon illustrations, was first published on the website FunBrain before being picked up by Abrams books.

Gordon's credits include National Treasure: Book Of Secrets, The Brothers Bloom and a guest appearance in How I Met Your Mother.

The project is scheduled for release in April 2010.
