The 54-year-old Oscar winner, who previously expressed an interest in playing the US president, has said that he received Obama's personal endorsement for the role, reports the Daily Mail.
Washington said: "It was at the President's suggestion."
The American Gangster star recently suggested that he was too old to portray the 47-year-old politician, but now claims that there is only one thing in the way of a truly factual portrayal.
He said: "The only problem is he has bigger ears than me."
