The project, based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, tells the story of Mr and Mrs Fox (George Clooney and Meryl Streep), their son Ash (Jason Schwartzman) and their visiting nephew (Eric Anderson).
When Mr Fox is caught stealing food from crooked farmers, the family find themselves trapped underground, running out of food and having to work together to triumph against the villainous Boggis, Bunce and Bean.
"Fantastic Mr Fox is a British film, based on a Roald Dahl book, set in the UK, produced in the UK, and so I am especially pleased to have been invited to be the opening night movie of this year's London Film Festival," said Anderson.
"We had a wonderful experience at the LFF with my previous film, and I am eagerly looking forward to introducing Fantastic Mr Fox to the world in this wonderful venue."
The movie was filmed in London and will mark Anderson's debut animated feature. It will premiere on October 13, while Anderson, Streep and Clooney are all scheduled to attend its opening night.
Fantastic Mr Fox is to open in the UK on October 23.
