Rachel McAdams has admitted that she is "stunned" by plans to adapt her movie The Notebook into a Broadway musical.

The actress starred alongside ex-boyfriend Ryan Gosling in the 2004 romance, based on the bestselling novel by Nicolas Sparks, which told the story of a young couple who fall in love in the 1940s.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, she said: "This is the first time I've heard of this! I'm stunned, I'm speechless!

"I would go see that. I'm curious. I can't imagine how that would work out but I would love to see it!"

The Broadway version is currently being penned by One Tree Hill star Bethany Joy Galeotti and music producer Ron Aniello. A website for the project has said that the pair will start with a musical workshop "as a preliminary step toward an eventual opening in New York".

A casting call is expected to take place next month.
