The satirical film will see the Oscar-winning actress star as a State Department worker who fights for women's rights in the Middle East after seeing her friend marry a prince and get executed.
The title is a play on Lawrence Of Arabia, David Lean's film about British soldier T.E. Lawrence's part in the Arab Revolt.
Theron is also expected to produce the project, to be written by Dean Craig (Death At A Funeral).
Buckley's earlier novel Thank You For Smoking was adapted for the screen by Jason Reitman in 2006.
