The British actor, who appears as the villain in this week's CG animated comedy G-Force, spoke to DS about his forthcoming role as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour.
"I thought I was going to be the only English actor not in Harry Potter," he joked. "I think they ran out of English actors and they finally had to turn to me. I've worked with David Yates, the director, on The Girl In The Café and State Of Play and I love him. I think he is one of the great director's currently working and I'm very happy to be working with him again."
Nighy added that he has no qualms about joining the Potter franchise late in the day: "It is a unique situation because they've all been there so long. It is odd being the new boy. They are all very committed, they know everything - all the books, all the nuances of everything. It's nice to come in and finally be a part of it."
