The actor told Metro that the promotional campaign for the movie intentionally does not mention the medical condition of its lead.
Dancy said: "It's a very deliberate choice and I'm really glad about it.
"You want the movie to speak for itself and really it's just about a young man and woman in New York trying to make a relationship work."
He added: "Honestly, there was zero per cent career calculation. My assumption was that it would never be seen. It was made for under $500,000, which in movie terms is peanuts.
"The only worry I had in terms of careerism was it would be perceived as an attempt to do The Difficult Role and I wouldn't get it right and it would just be risible."
