Brian Henson has announced that he has started work on a Dark Crystal sequel and a new Fraggle Rock movie.

The son of late Muppets creator Jim is readying the two projects through the production company that his father owned and that he now co-runs with his sister, MTV reports.

"We have a Dark Crystal sequel called The Power Of The Dark Crystal. It has a very strong script," he said.

He also explained that the update of the 1980s children's programme about a group of furry creatures that reside in the titular Fraggle Rock is still in very active development, saying: "It'll have a strong musical component. It'll be expanded to an older audience. Fraggle Rock [the TV show] was presented... for a pretty exclusively children's audience."

Henson added that both ventures are close to pre-production, and that the studio is currently seeking finance and distribution.

It was announced earlier that the Jim Henson Company and Archaia Comics will collaborate on graphic novels based upon previous works such as The Dark Crystal and Fraggle Rock.
