Mamet to helm Disney's 'Anne Frank'
David Mamet has signed up to direct Disney's adaptation of The Diary Of Anne Frank.

The new movie will be based on the famous real-life diary and Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich's successful stage production, according to Variety.

Frank was killed aged 15 at the Bergen-Bergen concentration camp during World War II. The diary she kept while her family hid in a secret attic in Amsterdam was published after the war ended. Mamet is apparently considering turning the project into a "rite of passage" tale.

Producer Andrew Braunsberg has negotiated for the rights from the Anne Frank Estate and Hackett and Goodrich.

Previous adaptations of the text have included 1959's Oscar-winning Diary Of Anne Frank and ABC's 2001 Emmy winner Anne Frank: The Whole Story.
