The star, who secured a best supporting actress nod for her role in Maria Full Of Grace, will play villainous vampire Maria in the third instalment of the Twilight franchise.
She is described in Stephenie Meyer's books as a "petite brunette with a soft voice" who attempts to create a newborn army of vampires with the help of Jasper (Jackson Rathbone).
Colombian-born Moreno's previous credits include Grace, Steven Soderbergh's Che and upcoming indie drama Frail.
Production on Eclipse is scheduled to begin in Vancouver later this month.
