The Sideways star appears as Murphy's financial market rival in new comedy Imagine That.
Church told Metro: "I actually did this to work with Eddie, although I also wanted to do a movie my daughter could see.
"I've pined to work with him since I became an actor 20 years ago. He's just so natural. I don't really know if he could teach anybody. It's so effortless for him."
He added: "He was a movie star when he was 19, 20 years old, because he had such a gift and he continues to thrive as a performer.
"What I took away from the experience is his drive to make things entertaining and unique."
