Robert Downey Jr to play vampire Lestat?

According to Bloody Disgusting, the Iron Man star is in talks with Universal Pictures to reboot Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles.
If confirmed, Downey Jr would be the third actor to portray Lestat, preceded by Stuart Townsend in the 2002 film Queen Of The Damned, and more notably Tom Cruise in Interview With The Vampire in 1994.
It has not yet been revealed which book in the series the studio will launch into production.
