A remake of the 1987 hit Dirty Dancing is in the works, according to Production Weekly.

Uptown Girls writer Julia Dahl has been hired to pen the script for the new movie. The original starred Patrick Swayze as a dance instructor who romanced Jennifer Grey's teen Frances 'Baby' Houseman.

The movie was a huge hit on release, earning $213.95 million at the worldwide box office. A sequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (starring Diego Luna and Romola Garai), was released in 2004.

Dirty Dancing has also been turned into a stage musical, having successful runs in Australia, Germany and the UK.
