McGee hails John Hughes's soundtracks

The Creation Records founder told The Guardian that Hughes's choice of songs on his films played a key role in introducing the US mainstream to British bands, including New Order, Echo And The Bunnymen, The Smiths and Dream Academy.
McGee said: "This was always Hughes's intention. The master of teenage alienation was also the master of the cool rock mixtape.
"Hughes certainly knew his music and his passion was far reaching - electronic, post-punk, ska - with an Anglophile slant."
He added: "For Hughes, just adding a well-known band to his films for production reasons was anathema.
"Music was integral to his movies and using Simple Minds' 'Don't You Forget About Me' in The Breakfast Club was monumental. Hughes was instrumental in breaking the band in the States and he regarded this success as a career highlight."
Hughes died from a heart attack earlier this month at the age of 59.
