The Screen Gems movie sees Paul Bettany's rebellious clergyman team up with the town sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and a priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a group of bloodthirsty vampires. Urban's role is that of Black Hat, the leader of the vampires who was once a priest himself.
Scott Stewart is directing the movie, based on Cory Goodman's adaptation of the TokyoPop comic. Production on Priest kicks off next week in Los Angeles.
Urban was most recently seen playing Bones in J.J. Abrams's Star Trek revival.
