The 1939 classic Gone With The Wind has been seen by more people in the UK than any other, according to statistics produced by the British Film Institute.
The American Civil War epic based upon Margaret Mitchell's novel and starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable topped Channel 4's The Ultimate Film poll with audience figures of over 35m.
The poll is the first to look at the popularity of films in the UK solely by audience figures. BFI director Amanda Nevill explained: "These are the nation's favourites - selected not by vote, or by critics, but by the number of actual visits [to the cinema] by everyone living in this country over the past 100 years."
"The result is a remarkable record of the nation's film tastes."
In second place was The Sound of Music with audience figures of 30m, followed by Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs and Star Wars.
The most recent film to make the chart was Lord of the Rings: Return of the King with an audience of 15.22 m.
