Leading man Will Smith and director Peter Berg are expected to return for the follow-up, aiding the new writers in developing the story, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Hancock, which took in more than $600 million at the worldwide box office, centred on a down-and-out crimefighter whose image is overhauled by a PR guru.
Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman also starred in the superhero blockbuster.
