The movie centres on two single adults (Heigl and John Duhamel) who are named joint guardians of a young girl after her parents, mutual friends of the pair, are killed in a car accident. Hendricks will play the best friend to the lead characters.
Greg Berlanti is on board to direct the Warner Bros film, with Heigl and her mother Nancy acting as executive producers.
Hendricks can currently be seen in the third season of Mad Men, which recently debuted in the US.
