The Terminator 3 filmmaker told DS that he found the Bruce Willis movie, about humans interacting through surrogate robot bodies, to have "compelling" ideas.
"First you go, 'Wow, that'd be cool to make a movie with all these good-looking robots'," Mostow said. "That's just sort of the escapist entertainment part of it. But then you find the ideas really compelling, it makes you think about all these ideas, it makes you think about all the time you do spend in front of the computer and the internet and Facebook and all these things."
He continued: "You think, 'What did I use to do with all that time before I had this technology at my fingertips?' That's what drew me to making this particular film."
Surrogates opens in UK and US cinemas this Friday.
