The Traffic and Ocean's Eleven filmmaker is attached to make Cleo with Catherine Zeta Jones in the title role and using music composed by US indie band Guided By Voices.
Speaking to the Orlando Sentinal, the director admitted that he is excited about marrying 3D technology with songwriter Robert Pollard's music.
"Cleopatra's world would be a natural for this," he said. "You combine a 3D journey into her world with Robert Pollard's Guided by Voices music and dancing, it should be great fun."
He continued: "I'm going to do it in 3D, because I think that's a viable format. You're going to see more people working in it. I want to see the first person take a shot at doing a straight drama in 3D. Maybe the way to do it would be to make a period drama in 3D where it really contributes to your sense of being in that world."
