The character Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983, is a seven-foot tall intergalactic bounty hunter in the DC Comics universe. Don Payne penned the script for the adaptation, which sees the anti-hero team up with a young girl to find four fugitive aliens.
Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce the sci-fi action film, with shooting penciled in for early next year.
Ritchie's next movie, the Robert Downey Jr-led Sherlock Holmes, opens on December 25.
