Rex Features
According to Variety, the film will be a romantic comedy in the style of Love Actually rather than Playtone's recent hit musical Mamma Mia!.
Manilow's manager Garry Kief, Single Cell's Sandy Stern and Michael Stipe, and Playtone's Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks are producing the film, which is the first big screen project to have full access to the popular American songwriter's music.
The character-driven story will feature Manilow fans arriving in Las Vegas, where he is playing a show at Mandalay Bay. The veteran singer, 66, will perform tracks in the movie and his back catalogue will be interspersed throughout. He will also be involved in shaping the project's plot when a writer is hired.
Manilow's hits include 'Copacabana (At the Copa)', 'Mandy', 'Can't Smile Without You' and 'Could It Be Magic'.
