Joel Silver had been developing the live-action reinvention of the He-Man franchise, but the producer has had a disagreement over the film's direction with toy-makers Mattel, reports Variety.
The storyline was expected to follow He-Man's alter ego Prince Adam on a quest to find his destiny. Along the way, he would stumble on the magical place of Eternia, where he finds the evil Skeletor has raised a technological army intent on eradicating all traces of magic.
Mattel is expected to pursue the project elsewhere, while director John Stevenson is likely to remain on board.
The He-Man character was previously turned into a 1987 feature film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella.
