Anton Yelchin has been added to the cast of Jodie Foster's dark comedy The Beaver.

The Star Trek actor will join Foster and Mel Gibson in the indie project, which will follow the story of a depressed man (Gibson) who wears a beaver puppet on his hand believing it to be real.

Foster, who is also directing, will play his wife, while Yelchin is cast as their son who wants the pair to get divorced.

Kyle Killen's screenplay was named the top script in last year's Blacklist, a list compiled by Hollywood agents, executives and producers to find the best screenplay of the year.

Beaver will be Foster's first directorial venture since 1995's Home For The Holidays.
