The filmmaking siblings announced plans to remake the 1969 John Wayne Western earlier this year. The Coens revealed that they are to follow Charles Portis's source novel, rather than the Henry Hathaway-directed vehicle which garnered Wayne an Oscar.
Bridges, who last worked with the helmers on The Big Lebowski as Jeffrey 'The Dude' Lebowski, is in negotiations to take on the lead role, Variety reports.
The 59-year-old will also reprise his Kevin Flynn character for Tron Legacy, which is released in cinemas on December 17, 2010.
