The Wayne's World actress will play the Hawaiian surfing legend, who was nicknamed 'Queen of Makaha'. Sunn was a surfing pioneer, diving expert, karate black belt and hula dancer. She also famously set up a surf contest for children to help deal with juvenile delinquency.
Sunn died in 1998 after losing a 15-year battle with breast cancer.
Martha Coolidge is directing from a script co-written by Carrere and Simon Wakelin. Shooting will begin in Hawaii in early 2010.
