Following its success in America Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events ploughed into the UK box office chart at number one.
Lemony, starring Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep, took £2.2m in its first weekend. The film, directed by Brad Silberling, tells the story of a distant relative trying to steal the fortune of three wealthy children.
In second place was Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles with £1.6m. Next in third place was The Polar Express while last week's chart-topper, Blade: Trinity, slipped to fourth place.
