Brad Pitt has allegedly held talks with Warner Bros about playing Professor Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes sequel, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Reports surfaced last month claiming that Pitt would make a cameo appearance as Holmes's arch nemesis. However, the studio quickly dismissed the rumour.

Justice League writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney are currently working on a script for the Holmes sequel, which is expected to see Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and director Guy Ritchie return.

Sherlock Holmes will open in cinemas on December 26.
