The Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter will write and produce the film for Universal, reports Variety.
The Sweet Valley series, which centres on identical twins with divergent personalities, was created in 1983 by Francine Pascal and continued through a series of ghostwriters. A TV series based on the novels ran for 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997 on Fox and UPN.
Cody's latest film, Jennifer's Body, opened last weekend in the US and is due out in the UK on November 6.
